Volvo will be incorporating new engine technology into all models for the year of 2015. Volvo announced yesterday that they have developed a new Drive E power train that combines both performance with efficiency.
It has also been rumoured that the new engine technology will be available to have fitted in all Volvo models from May of this year. The Volvo brand have somewhat struggled over the last number of years, in terms of increasing sales and market share.
The Volvo brand have also famously been quoted as saying they will not be joining the likes of the electric car market or the hybrid car market and have therefore been forced to develop more of a efficient way of doing things.
The new E Drive developments should allow the Volvo brand to compete with the likes of the electric car and the hybrid car in terms of figures on efficiency and fuel economy. The Volvo firm are currently trialling new KERS technology which would not be used in the same way to that in Formula 1.
The KERS technology has been present in Formula 1 for a number of years and is used as part of a boost in performance. However, the Swedish manufacturer are currently trialling the developments of the British company who believe they have manufactured a system that would control the recovered energy and help with efficiency rather than performance.
Since Volvo announced that they would not be developing an electrically powered model or a hybrid model, the electric car and hybrid car markets have become one of the fastest growing markets in the automotive industry.
The KERS development along with the new E Drive engines will allow Volvo to once again target the missing market who are looking for reduced running costs and fuel efficiency.
