Alloy Wheel Insurance

What is alloy wheel insurance cover, and why should you consider buying it?

Buying or changing your car can be expensive, as can changing your car insurance, possibly transferring your number plate, and even getting parking permits. All these costs can quickly add up. So why should you consider spending even more money buying an alloy insurance policy?

Did you know that damaging your alloy wheel can

  • Spoil the appearance of your alloy wheel
  • Affect the resale/part exchange value of your car
  • Be a safety hazard.*

*Allowing water to enter the damaged area can cause corrosion, weakening the wheel.

Alloy Wheel Cover can help protect you against the cost of minor cosmetic damage to your alloy wheels.

How to make an alloy wheel insurance claim.

Please follow the claims procedure in your policy documents.

  • Report the damage to the claims team within 30 days of noticing it. (This prevents potential corrosion issues and ensures a long-lasting professional repair.)
  • Complete the claims pack, which may include sending images to the claims team.
  • Arrange a day for a mobile repair or, with the claims team's authorisation, arrange for your nominated repairer to carry out the work. ( if a nominated repairer is used, you will have to pay for the invoice and send it to the claims team for a refund )
  • If your wheel is damaged beyond economical repair (e.g., it was buckled ), it will be scrapped, and you can claim £150 as a goodwill gesture. ( this will not pay for a new or replacement alloy wheel; instead, this is a goodwill gesture made as you can not claim for the repair on your alloy policy)

Who can not buy an alloy wheel cover?

We can not offer cover for anyone who bought their car over 90 days ago, motorhomes, motorbikes, LCVs, or HGVs, or anyone who uses their car for hire or reward, competition, road racing, or pace-making.

When will your cover start?

Your alloy cover will start on the day that you purchase your policy. However, if you bought a brand-new car and purchased your policy before delivery, there is a 30-day exclusion period. During this time, your policy will not honour any claim or be responsible for repairing any damage that occurs.

Is alloy wheel insurance worth it?

The average cost of alloy wheel repairs is estimated to be between £150 and £200, depending on where in the UK you are located. That means that if you make just two alloy wheel claims in three years, you have already paid for the policy and will receive some change.

How are alloy wheels damaged?

Accidental or malicious damage can be caused in many ways, such as hitting potholes or curbs or encountering road debris. ( please remember if the damage was malicious, you will have to be able to quote a crime reference number )

How much will alloy wheel insurance cost?

Unlike other types of policies, such as tyre and alloy wheel insurance, the size and type of your wheels do not impact your policy's cost. Instead, the number of claims you choose and the length of time you want to be protected will change the cost of your policy. ( Tyre and alloy wheel insurance will be affected not only by the size of your wheels but also by which type of tyres are fitted to your car) Prices start from as little as £175.89 for a 2-year policy with up to 2 claims per year to £306.91 for a 4year policy with up to 4 claims per year.

We think the cost is much less than having to pay for the repairs yourself.

But as always, the choice is yours, as when all is said and done without cover, you will have to pay for any repairs or adjust to any drop in part exchange prices for damaged alloys.

Are you considering buying tyre insurance as well as alloy wheel cover?

If you are considering buying alloy wheel and tyre insurance, we recommend that you look at our combined tyre and alloy wheel insurance policy instead.

A tyre and alloy wheel insurance policy has all the benefits of the two separate policies but is much better value for money.  Combining the two policies into one offers a lower cost without any compromise on coverage.

Please see the tyre and alloy wheel insurance documents below for full terms and conditions.

(Please note that our tyre and alloy wheel insurance policies were altered in 2023, so there may be differences if you purchased your policy before then)

For example, historical tyre and alloy wheel insurance policies charged a £10.00 excess.
