Top 10 Best-Selling Cars in the UK – April 2025 New Car Sales Rankings

Top 10 Best-Selling Cars in the UK – April 2025

Despite a tough month for the UK car market overall, one thing never fails to grab attention: what everyone’s driving. The latest data from the SMMT reveals which models captured drivers’ hearts — and wallets — in April 2025.

The market may have slumped, but these top performers kept the forecourts moving.

Here’s the Countdown:

1. Kia Sportage – 3,514

Kia’s bold and practical SUV takes the crown for April. With its sleek design, strong hybrid options, and excellent value, the Sportage is the go-to family SUV in the UK.

2. Ford Puma – 3,311

Still a major player, the Ford Puma keeps its place near the top. Its compact size, sporty looks, and mild-hybrid tech continue to make it a favourite among urban and suburban drivers.

3. Vauxhall Corsa – 2,376

The perennial favourite is back in the top three. Affordable, well-equipped and now available with electric options, the Corsa is a strong seller, especially for first-time buyers and city dwellers.

4. Nissan Qashqai – 2,197

The Qashqai is a mainstay of British roads and offers a premium feel without the price tag. Consistently popular with families and fleet drivers, it’s no surprise that it is near the top again.

5. Audi A3 – 2,112

Proof that premium doesn’t always mean niche. The Audi A3 blends performance, comfort and badge appeal — and British drivers clearly still love it.

6. Volvo XC40 – 2,008

Swedish safety meets electric ambition. The XC40 is available in both petrol and fully electric variants, helping Volvo tap into a growing eco-conscious market.

7. Nissan Juke – 1,959

It’s quirky. It’s compact. And clearly, it’s still selling. The Juke strongly appeals to drivers wanting something different — especially in the booming compact crossover segment.

8. Peugeot 2008 – 1,822

Stylish, tech-filled, and now available in electric form, the 2008 is proving that French flair still has a place in British garages.

9. Hyundai Tucson – 1,781

One of the most improved SUVs of recent years, the Tucson, is modern, well-equipped, and offers multiple powertrain choices. It is a worthy top-10 finisher.

10. MINI Cooper – 1,624

Iconic as ever, the MINI Cooper rounds out the top 10. Whether petrol or electric, the MINI’s charm, handling and personality keep it on the shortlist for style-conscious buyers.

What Do These Rankings Tell Us?

  • SUVs are still winning, with six of the top 10 being crossovers or full-size SUVs.
  • The Ford Puma and Kia Sportage are now household names, and both are at the top of the charts.
  • Electrification matters, but buyers still value variety. Most top models now offer mild-hybrid or full EV options even if traditional petrol options still lead.
  • Who would have predicted you would have Kia, Hyundai, and two Nissans in the Top 10 a decade or more ago? The world is changing.

A Bright Spot in a Sluggish Market

April 2025 was a tough month overall, with UK new car sales down 10.4%. But these models show that brand strength, value, and fuel flexibility still win the day.

Even with higher VED taxes, a late Easter and economic pressure, buyers still make confident decisions — especially when the product ticks multiple boxes.  GAP Insurance 123

Final Thought: Choice Is King

It’s not just about EVs or petrol anymore. Consumers want flexibility, and the cars topping the sales charts this month all reflect that. Whether it’s the affordable Corsa, the aspirational A3, or the all-rounder Sportage, April’s best-sellers prove that 2025 choice drives everything.
