The Toyota Yaris Hybrid -R
As the Frankfurt Motor Show nears, a whole host of new models and concept models crawl out the woodwork and the next one to do so is the Toyota Yaris Hybrid-R. It may well be the most eagerly anticipated Yaris model ever to grace the market.
The new Yaris model will be powered by a combination of two electric motors and a 1.6 litre four cylinder engine that will effectively give the new Toyota Yaris Hybrid somewhat of an all electric drive. The super capacitor similar to the term flux capacitor has been developed for use on the Le Mans version of the model in order to store energy for the model.
Toyota insist that the super capacitor will have the ability to store power at a higher density and quicker speed than that of the standard fitting of the metal hybrid battery. The piece of technology can also act in the same way as the CURS in Formula 1. The CURS used is recycled energy stored in the capacitor and released in bursts of power over a ten second time per charge or five seconds per charge in race conditions. The burst of energy is believed to give the Toyota Yaris model a massive increase of 119bhp.
Another added electric motor as well as the two fitted on the rear wheels, will be used as a power generator to feed the capacitor and manage the delivery of power onto the two rear wheels. The third motor will also cleverly act as a traction control system on the Toyota Yaris model.
In terms of competition, it is a tough to say exactly what model will rival the Toyota Yaris Hybrid -R due to its complete difference and range of abilities. The standard Yaris model currently faces competition from all angles as the new Nissan Micra enters the market along with the very successful Ford Fiesta and Vauxhall Corsa models. However, such models don't have hybrid versions which may give Toyota the advantage.
