The brand new
Ford Escort Saloon, which was officially unleashed at the Shanghai Motor Show this year, could be coming to Europe, although it is set for China. The mid sized
Ford Escort Saloon concept caused quite the sensation in China, when it was revealed that the car would be wearing the famous badge.
Although the production version of the vehicle would be originally aimed firmly at the Chinese car market, it has been said that there is definitely potential for the model to be sold elsewhere.
A senior insider for the
Ford company explained that there has been internal discussions about bringing the Escort to the European market. He went on to say that he personally would like to see the car in Europe as there is surely a place in the market for a lower costing car, to sit below the Focus. He expressed that the key to doing this would be to do it, without making the Ford brand appear any less desirable.
Mark Ovenden, who is the new Ford UK Chairman and MD confirmed that the new
Ford model was not intended as a vehicle only for China. He explained that initially, the car is for China but it could indeed work in other places.
