Peugeot to sell up?

Peugeot to sell up?

The recent struggles at Peugeot have been well documented over the past 12 – 18 months and the firm have already come close to selling up before, according to a number of sources. However, it seems that Peugeot may once again be considering a sale of a number of shares within the company.

Not so long ago, the French manufacturer Peugeot had been looking to sell the majority of the company to the US motor giant General Motors who of course own Vauxhall, however, there was a complete U-Turn as the French Government offered to invest in the company.

The French Government had already loaned the French manufacturer a considerable amount of money after Peugeot Citroen PSA announced plans to close one of the largest car production factory within France.

Peugeot have struggled due to the dependence on home grown sales in the current economic climate within the European economy. Demand has completely disappeared within the South of Europe and certain manufacturers have struggled. However, for Peugeot times may about to change.

It has been reported that the Chinese company Dongfeng Motor may be interested in investing in the company. In terms of investment this may very well prove to be a wise one. The Peugeot brand is well known across the globe and has not found its way into emerging markets such as the Chinese or the Indian as yet.

However, with investment from the Dongfeng Motor company, Peugeot may well have the ability to expand into China and build the amount of dealership networks they have within the emerging car market.

Certain manufacturers have struggled within the last number of months due to the European car market, however, other manufacturers such as Jaguar and Land Rover have had one of their most successful years of sales to date and this is down to targeting and approaching different markets.

Jaguar Land Rover have recently expanded into both China and India and have seen a massive increase in sales, rather than continuing to put more money into the European market. Peugeot can now use this investment in the development of the dealership network within growing markets.
