Kia recall 25,000 UK models
The South Korean manufacturer has recently announced a recall of up to 25,000 models which have been sold in the UK due to the recently discovered issue of a faulty brake light switch within the circuit. It is not a fault with the brake light and therefore cannot be fixed by changing the bulb it is far more complex and serious than that.
The problem in the switchboard could cause the brake lights to fail when the brakes are in use and if the brake lights are released the lights could completely switch off. The danger is to other road users and the issue of confusion to other road users could potentially lead to an incident or crash.
Kia insist that the actual function of the brakes and the ABS systems are not at any risk or at fault for the problem and the only issue is simply in the brake lighting system. Kia insist that the issue will have a fixing time of 15 minutes.
Kia have recalled a number of models including the last generation Carens, Sportage, Sedona and Sorento models as well as some of the current and successful generation of the Soul and Optima models.
Kia along with sister brand Hyundai have quickly become one of the most reputable and profitable manufacturers in the automotive industry. Both Hyundai and Kia had a reputation for being a l;ack of quality and cheaply built just over a decade ago, however, with a dramatic restyling and a U turn in price and marketing, the Kia brand has gone from strength to strength. Kia have been close to the success of the Nissan brand over the last number of years after sticking closely behind the Qashqai, Juke and Leaf models.
Kia have endured one of the most successful years in the firms history in the last 12 months, as the firm proudly announced that they could not meet demand and waiting lists will have to form for certain models in certain parts of the world. The success of Kia and Hyundai over the last number of years been placed largely on the head of Peter Schreyer who was in charge of the change in design for both sets of models just a short while ago.
