Ford have announced that they are preparing to launch a brand new Adaptive Steering system that will help improve handling of all models across the Ford range. The Ford brand have been amongst the best selling brands in the European car market and hope that new advanced technology help the brand expand into markets such as the Chinese.
The Ford Fiesta and the Ford Focus models have been amongst the best selling models in the UK car market for the past 24 months and expect to remain at the top. However, it seems that the unique selling points in the form of the 1.0 litre engine along with the fuel economy figures have been matched by major rivals Vauxhall.
At the Geneva Motor Show in March, Ford rivals Vauxhall unveiled that Adam Rocks crossover model with a 1.0 litre engine under the bonnet. It is believed that the new Corsa model which is due to go on sale later this year will have the 1.0 litre engine as an option. This gives the Ford brand less of an edge in the market.
However, with the new development of the Adaptive Steering technology will once again give the brand more of an advantage in the market. The US brand has stated that the new technology will improve the handling of all models at all speeds. The technology works by allowing the change in the ratio of turns required to move the front wheels.
When the model speeds up it causes the system to automatically adjust to the speed and the steering follows.
All in all it will result in the driver having to turn the wheel fewer times to achieve the same movement on the road. It is also said to make parking easier and tight turns no longer strenuous. It is believed that the new Adaptive Steering technology will be fitted on larger models when it first joins the market before making the move to the smaller models such as the KA and the Fiesta.
