Fiat Announce Job Cuts of 1,500!

Fiat to cut jobs in Poland

The Italian mass market manufacturer Fiat have announced a job cut of up to 1,500 jobs in Poland due to the mess that is, the European car market. These specific job cuts will affect the southern city of Tychy, who were previously the home of the Fiat 500.

The sacrifice of jobs is absolutely necessary as demand continues to decrease during the economic downturn. The company has had to adjust the output of vehicles as demand has simply dwindled in the past 12 months with the highest decrease being in October as the company felt a 10% decrease in sales compared to the previous year.

The plant not only produce the the Fiat 500 but also the Fiat Panda , as well as the Ford Ka amongst other models. The plant has previously produced over 600,000 vehicles in 12 months and are expecting to only produce less than 300,000 this year.

Among attempts to increase sales, Fiat have announced the production of a 4x4 Panda model. The Fiat Panda 4x4 is set to go on sale this month for an approximate invoice price of £13,999.

Fiat are not the only manufacturer to be making cuts, as Ford who have had a record year for sales have also announced up to 1,400 job cuts in Southampton and Dagenham. Ford are continuing the negotiation of ceasing production in the Genk plant in Belguim resulting in a further loss of 4,000 jobs for factory workers.

On the other hand, Nissan subsidiary Infiniti have announced an increase of 1,000 jobs in the north east plant of Nissan Sunderland as they are set to build the new Etherea in 2015. Whilst European markets continue to suffer, the U.K car market has thrived over the last 12 months as sales have continued to soar throughout 2012.
