Volkswagen to revitalise the Beetle franchise

Volkswagen are currently working on producing an all new Beetle model, along with a brand new family of retro beetle based models that are going to include a revitalisation of the famous Volkswagen Campervan, along with a crossover and a stylish coupe.

The Beetle model is based on the MKVI Golf, though the new family of Beetles underpinnings will be by the new MQB vehicle architecture that can be found in the most recent Volkswagen Golf.

The Future for Volkswagen and the the Beetle model

It is not clear at the moment whether each of the models will be wearing the nameplate of the Beetle, though the internal belief is that the Beetle brand is definitely strong enough to be able to support a whole range of models on it's own, just like Fiat with the 500, the 500X and the 500L.

Many would say that the most exciting model in the future being proposed by the Volkswagen Beetle family is the Camper, which has been seen most recently at the Geneva Motor Show 2011 as the Bulli concept. That was related to the up! City car and it's powertrain was all electric, though now a bigger Beetle based model is looking to be in favour.

The Key features of the Volkswagen Beetle

The word from inside the Volkswagen company is that the camper's exterior design will be inspired by the 60's, though it's underneath technology will be completely up to date, that includes power from a brand new range of three cylinder 1.0 litre engines and optional four wheel drive. So with that in mind we believe that the Volkswagen Beetle could very well prove to be an ideal rival for other vehicles from rival companies such as, Vauxhall and Ford.

This is all very good news, however the bad news is that the Volkswagen camper is not actually expected to arrive until the brand new Beetle is released and that is not until 2019.
