Vauxhall Celebrate 50 Years at Ellesmere Port

Vauxhall - 50 Years at Ellesmere Port

The plant has been dubbed as being the home of the Astra and is this month celebrating its 50th birthday. The production site is arguably one of the most famous in the country due to the amount of press the plant has had in the past decade.

During the past ten years the plant has twice been close to closure, but General Motors who own Vauxhall, insist that the plant is more secure than ever. In fact the new plant will build the next generation of Astra models in 2015.

The plant owner insist that the production facility has had to adapt and change methods of production to keep up with competition from other facilities in Korea and Australia. He believes that by winning the production of the next generation Astra it only confirms the strength of the facility.

In terms of the current rate of production, the firm proudly boast to produce as much as 30 models an hour despite demand being reasonably moderate. When the new Astra model goes into production it is predicted that as much as 47 models will be rolling off the line by the hour.

The Ellesmere Port plant will be a key in the success of the Vauxhall brand in the next 36 months. Vauxhall announced that they had planned to overtake rivals Ford in the UK car market within the next three years. The newly updated Vauxhall Corsa model is set to be the first step towards achieving the goal of overtaking Ford.

The Corsa model is due to enter the UK car market towards the end of the year and will hope to knock the Ford Fiesta off the top of the charts. The Ford Fiesta model has been amongst the best selling vehicles in the UK for over 24 months. The Focus model has also been in and amongst the best selling models in the UK with the Vauxhall Astra and Corsa sitting behind the two.
