The Aston Martin Estate?
It may be tough to imagine, but Aston Martin unveiled the Jet 2+2 concept model back in March at the Geneva Motor Show. At the time Aston Martin declared that the model would never make it past the concept car status.
However, the concept model seemed to have had a considerable amount of interest at the Geneva Motor Show and has sparked the decision makers at the British firm to make a decision. The model was only built as a tribute the centenary birthday celebration and as a commemoration of 60 years of working alongside Bertone.
According to inside sources, the model was only meant for a limited production of small numbers and was to be offered out to the wealthiest of Bertone customers. However, it has been announced that both firms are discussing a larger scale of production for the model.
Aston Martin insist that a decision will be made after a discussion has taken place over the choice of name and the legal requirements over the model. Bertone are heavily linked with the Jet name at Aston Martin and it is thought that there vote may go to the Jet name. However, Automotive sources have indicated that the model be named the Rapide Shooting Brake.
No matter what the model is to be called, it is clear that both sides of the party want to see the project grow and target the masses. We have seen many luxury manufacturers have a look at the estate market and manufacturers such as Mercedes and Jaguar seemed to achieve a certain level of success with certain models. It is almost guaranteed that at least ten models will be made and if there is then they will be made at the Bertone plant, any more then they will have to be built at Aston Martin.
