A man from Ottowa has been charged with a $75 parking ticket for parking on his own property as the space was once a pavement. Mike Kang had parked his vehicle in a marked spot in a parking lot of the Midas garage of which he owns, which is close to the under construction road which is in front of his business when he was given the ticket.
The parking space sits on a spot that used to be part of the pavement and borders the edge of his property. It is allegedly however extremely hard to tell where the property line runs exactly, as constant road works have ruined the pavement. Mr Kang, who is 50 has every intention on fighting against the fine because the ticket had been written for stopping on the pavement. He explained that since last March when construction first started, there is no longer any pavement along the road.
What has upset Mr Kang the most is the fact that the bylaw officer didn't attempt to talk to him before he placed the ticket underneath the window wiper of his car. Mr Kang exclaimed that he was extremely upset, it is a business and it was open at the time, so he believes that the officer should have atleast attempted to come in and ask him to move his car.
Mr Kang explained that business at his Midas Garage franchise has reduced by 10% from what it was the year before due to the road works and they are expected to last a further two years. The Midas garage is one of two that he owns, which is located on Bronson Avenue.
Diane Holmes, who is Mr Kang's local councillor has said that she would be happy to show her support if he was to ask for the ticket to be withdrawn as it sounds like a completely legitimate argument that he has made.
