Driving under the influence of... not alcohol or drugs, but drum and bass music.

Aaron Cogley, aged 25 from Portishead, Bristol has been given a 12 month driving ban for reckless driving.

However this incident is different from what we normally read on the news. Mr Cogley was not under the influence of either alcohol or drugs, and he did possess an up-to-date license (with car insurance). To the supirse of many, the actual cause of the reckless driving according to Mr Cogley was because he was under the influence of drum and bass music.

Mr Cogley was accused of recklessy driving his Ford through a number of red lights and swerving between lanes. Mr Cogley told the arresting officer and later the court room that he was intoxicated by the effects of his favourite music, which he claimed made him drive erratically.

His defendant team has said that “The sentence was stupid. He was carried away because of the intoxicating effects of drum and bass music”. However the judge said that: “His drum and bass music may be Intoxicating for some, but it is very irritating for others.'

Mr Cogley pleaded guilty and safety avoied prison time, however was subject to a £60 fine, 12 month driving ban, 80 hours of unpaid work and ordered to pass an extended driving test. The court also heard that Mr Cogley would also lose his job as a delivery driver.
