Drink Driving advert returns for Christmas

Christmas, is people's favourite time of year for a reason. The party season comes with the likelihood that people will be drinking and eating a lot more than they usually would. Also, if someone decides to risk drink driving, it is the time of year when they are more likely to be caught. This time of year, there are a lot more police on the roads, including during the morning and at the popular party venues where drunk drivers are expected to be getting in their cars to make a huge mistake.

Drink Driving Casualties rose last year

The police are said to have been even more vigilant this year, as the previous year the number of casualties admitted to hospital due to drink driving rose from 9,300 the year before to 9,900 in 2011. The Department for Transport has took this increase as an opportunity to relaunch their anti drinking campaign, which hasn't been shown for three years. The THINK! advert, sees a barman acting out several different situations that could come of drink driving and hasn't been aired since 2009, though has recently been showing up rather often on our screens.

The Department for Transport have however claimed that the ad had been revived due to their budgeting being increased and not because of the extra casualities admitted last year, of course still explaining that drink driving is extremely serious all of the time, not just at Christmas. The Department has also come together with Coca Cola to offer a buy one get one free drink offer to 8,000 UK venues during this Christmas perios, designed to inspire designated drivers to pick up a coke instead.

Be aware of Drink Driving at Christmas

Lets hope that it doesn’t have to take this advert to persuade people to be against drink driving. Be sensible always, it is not just Christmas which shows an issue of drink driving, although there does appear to be a higher risk at this time of year. Always remember when it comes to drink driving, although you may not do it yourself, there could easily be less sensible people than yourself on the roads.
