The Citroen brand has long been associated with innovation and style, even quirkiness if you will. However, the arrival of the Citroen DS3 gave the French manufacturer a true claim to an iconic vehicle. The DS3 combines an attractive exterior with all the practicality required in todays market. Lets be honest it has much more mainstream appeal than some of the Citroen models of the past, and this is extended to other models such as the DS4 and beyond.
However, the
DS3 has not been resting on its laurels, and indeed a new cabriolet version is due out for sale in early 2013.
Now this is not the first time that Citroen have given us vehicles with rooks that retract. Think back to the old 2CV, the Citroen Saxo have an 'Open Scandal' version, even the Xsara Picasso had a full length retractable roof as a factory option for a time.
However, Citroen had a little less success with a specific C3 variant, the Pluriel. After much anticipation the Pluriel arrived in the UK showrooms. Perhaps the fact that a Citroen representative was sent to show all sales staff how to remove the roof perhaps gave a hint at problems to come. The concept, despite being fantastic, proved problematic for owners. For example, if you wishes to enjoy a full 'open top' experience you could remove the side bars and leave them at home. This may not be a risk worth taking in the British summer!
The C3 Pluriel met with lukewarm enthusiasm, yet this does not promise to be the same with the DS3 cabriolet, as the French manufacturer has clearly learnt from the lessons of the past.
The new DS3 cabriolet looks to combine a fantastic base model with a practical cabriolet roof, which you can roll back in matter of seconds, even on the move!
From the pictures we have seen, and the early reports in the trade, the new DS3 cabriolet will look to give the Fiat 500 equivalent a real run for their money.
