Car thief gets shock of finding owner of the car he is trying to steal inside!

A man in hertfordshire attempted to steal a car, with the owner sat inside. The car was covered with snow, obviously making the man inside unclear to the thief outside, though the car engine was running, maybe he saw this as the perfect thieving opportunity, as the keys were obviously in the ignition. The thief opened the door to find that Neil Kane, who is 49 was sitting inside his car doing some paperwork whilst he waited for his BMW to warm up, before he would scrape the snow off it.

The incident occurred actually on Neil Kane's driveway in Hertfordshire, at around 8:00 GMT. The thief showed his utter surprise at finding Mr Kane inside the vehicle, before he ran off and drove away in a red Audi. Neil Kane explained that obviously he hadn't seen him. He had only been sitting inside the BMW for around 30 seconds with the engine running, so when the door was opened by the man, who was dressed head to toe in camouflage, Mr Kane explained that he knew right away what was going on and remained cool.

He explained that obviously the thief was an opportunist who had been waiting to steal a car, seen his with the engine running and thought all his Christmas's had come at once, however due to the car being completely covered in snow, the thief obviously hadn't been made aware Mr Kane was waiting inside. He said the thief even went on to drive past his home in the Audi, which had blacked out windows, although the incident all happened so quickly he was unable to get the number plate of the car.

Hertfordshire Police warned people to avoid leaving their vehicles unattended with the engines running whilst they are trying to defrost them. This was a very unlikely bout of luck that saw the owner of the vehicle able to deter a thief from doing what he does best.
