Bertone, the Italian Design and coachbuilding company have created an exclusive shooting brake (term for a car body style that has evolved through different meanings throughout history) concept version of the Rapide from Aston Martin. The concept is known as Bertone Jet 2+2 has been produced to appear at the Geneva Motor show next month, to celebrate both Aston Martin's centenary year and also 60 years of collaborations between Aston Martin and Bertone.
The Jet 2+2 model follows the Jet 2 concept car, a shotting brake version of the Aston Martin Vanquish, from 2004. The model has been commissioned as a one off by a collector of Aston Martins and has the approval from the Gaydon firm of Aston Martin. The Jet 2+2 has been described as very eligant, and is said to retain the same machanical features and dimensions as the Rapide. The power of the car comes from a 470 brake horsepower version of the Aston 5.9 litre V12 engine taken from the current Rapide,
The most noticeable changes from the Rapide to the Jet 2+2 is the altered body. It has stretched lines to help accentuate the sleek and elegant shape of the car. Bertone have said that the C pillars are bent forwards and are connected to the rather tall and muscular arched of the wheels, which is said to create a perception of movement, even if the car is stationary. The tailgate is said to help complete the saloon to shooting brake transformation of the vehicle, with a pronounced rear end and a full length LED light strip that runs along it.
Inside the cabin of the car there are four individual seats and the headroom for the vehicle has been increased for passengers in the rear of the car compared to the Rapide saloon, which is thanks to the switch in the bodystyle. The two back seats can be folded over so that they are flat and can be covered over by a sliding cover to create a rather sizeable luggage space if so desired, which can be accessed by the wide loading area when the tailgate is lifted. The car also has special wood, two tone leather and aluminium trims fitted.
