A special, unique one off
Volkswagen Golf GTI Cabrio Austria has been manufactured by a team of young apprentices for
Volkswagen. The car made it's debut at the Worthersee GTI event, which is held in Austria. The Apprentice technicians took a standard Golf GTI Cabrio, with a DSG gearbox as the base, this increased the power of the the 2.0 litre turbo engine to 328 brake horsepower from 207 brake horsepower.
Most of the changes to the model was in reference to design, including the Oryx Mother of pearl effect white paint, with red stripes that contrast on the exterior. The vehicle also has red detailing on the front bumper, along with red mirror caps and door mirror caps. On the interior the rear seats have been taken out and in the front they have been replaced with white and red Recaro bucket seats.
There is also red trim aplenty, on the stitching on the leather steering wheel, the air vent frames, the gear selector trim, the floor mats and the seatbelts.
The team of apprentices were made up of nine men and four women between the ages of 17 and 23. They come from four seperate backgrounds, vehicle interior fitting, automotive mechatronics, technical model making, along with paint, they collaborated for a year to create the show car.
This project allowed the team of young apprentices to take the initial idea from a sketch, to form a full show car, which was then exhibited in front of the
Volkswagen Board of Management.
