Today here at Gap 123 we are focusing on some of the latest news stories regarding vehicle recalls globally. We today have three of the latest in the recall developments and the first brand on our list today is Toyota. The Japanese auto-maker has confirmed earlier this week that they are to recall a total of 361,800 vehicles globally with Europe being affected by the majority of these recalls. Around 120,000 vehicles from Europe will be recalled with with around 40,000 units in their home country of Japan also being affected by the news. This brings in a total of 170,000 Camry units being recalled. The recall has been announced due to a fault with the ball joint used in the vehicle which if not repaired could cause the car to lose control whilst driving.
105,800 models including the Hiace, Regius,Ace and Dyna are also being recalled with the majority of these vehicles being in Japan. A faulty fuel pipe is the reason for this recall. Finally from Toyota is a third recall on Crown and Crown Majesta vehicles which will be to replace the outer seatbelt assemblies in the vehicles. This recall will affect 86,000 models.
Japanese manufacturer Nissan this week have added a total of another 53,000 Nissan and Infiniti vehicles to their recall list for faulty Takata airbags. The Nissan Pathfinder and Sentra models are affected whereas for Infiniti the list includes: FX35,FX45,I35,M35 and M45 models. These recalls do not affect these models on a global scale though as the firm have announced that the only places affected by this recall are as follows:
Puerto Rico,Hawaii,the Virgin Islands,Guam,Saipan,American Samoa,Florida,Alabama,Lousiana,Missisipi and Texas.
The reason for this recall is believed to be humid temperature conditions which are causing the airbags to rip and potentially fire out bursts of shrapnel. Unfortunately at least three deaths are believed to be linked to this problem in the United States. Nissan have stated that if your vehicle is affected by this recall, you will receive a letter from the company informing you take your vehicle to the nearest Nissan dealer.
Japanese firm Honda are also affected by the exact same problem as Nissan and Infiniti with the Takata air bags. Honda have officially widened the recall figure on their models from 2008 onwards with a figure now reaching around the ten million area. Another fatality has sadly been confirmed by Honda due to the Takata air bag which would mark the fifth fatality reported. The case was again shrapnel being fired out from the airbag. Four of these deaths were reported in the US all due to the same defect with the fifth reported from Malaysia. A further 170,000 vehicles have been added to their recall list. Two of the biggest models included in this recall are both the Fit and Civic.
