Parking Cameras to prevent crash for cash
Parking Cameras in cars can be re-purposed to collect crash evidence for insurance claims or even legal proceedings.
The progressively popular dashboard cameras that are used to provide evidence of accidents could very soon be made superfluous by vehicles that can take video footage of themselves with inbuilt parking cameras.
This is the promise of Qualcomm, the tech focused supplier. It has said that the new in dashboard processors are able to take data from the constantly growing number of cameras that are found in modern vehicles and can record footage, either by a button you press on the dashboard of a vehicle, or automatically if a crash was to take place.
It is then a rather simple case of downloading information from the vehicle onto a smartphone and then send to it to the insurance company, or even upload it to Youtube to share with the World.
Nakul Duggal, who is Qualcomm's head of automotive product development said that the camera is merely a sensor. It can be used to record and then store video and it is a rather straightforward process.
Most of the latest vehicles have no shortage of parking cameras. The new Qashqai model from Nissan in fact has up to four, which means that any crash or incident is able to be recorded from a number of different angles, if the software is available.
More and more motorists are installing dashboard cameras on their vehicles, so that they can provide evidence in case of a potential insurance scam, like crash for cash, it has been exclaimed recently by Smart Witness, a camera provider.
The company explained that it has seen rises in sales by 40% over the past year. Simon Marsh, who is the Company head said that it can take all of the stress out of a traffic accident. The liability is established quickly and then claims can be settled without dispute and much more quickly. Cameras are also able to be used to reduce premiums of insurance. Though right now, this is only the case with taxi fleet operators or lorries, who provide tamper proof cameras to drivers to record accidents.
