The study showed that drivers were provided with no more safety protection through the use of parking sensors than using just their mirrors. When they had both sensors and cameras, the result was actually more dangerous.

These figures came to light after a freedom of information request which was sent to all 45 forces to see how many were stopped and why. These laws allow police to issue on the spot fines and licence points to drivers for careless driving such as lane hogging, tailgating or wheelspins. Drivers can also be dealt with by the way of an educational course, similar to the drink driving scheme offered to cut the length of a driving ban.
