Negligent Motorists Put Their Lives At Risk!

According to the motor insurers Swiftcover.com “millions of negligent motorists” are risking their own and other peoples lives on the road by failing to maintain a standard of care in terms of looking after their cars.

A freedom of information on MOT data, indicated that failures of MOT increased in the years 2009 to 2011. More than a third of those failures were believed to be down to problems that could have been rectified with ease with out the need of a visit to the garage. These incidents are believed to be as little as faulty or broken lights to worn tyres and chipped windscreens.

Swiftcover.com have also found that within their claims data, a significant number of vehicles written off between the years 2009 and 2011 did not even have an MOT certificate.

A recent survey has also found that the majority of motorists are unsure of how to conduct the simplest of checks before setting out on a journey.

These 'checks' as it where, are literally the every day assessments motorists carry out to ensure that they do not break down or end up in an accident. The checks are as follows, oil level, front, rear and break lights are all working as well as windscreen wipers.

Research from Auto windscreens have found that 77% of drivers fail to check their car before embarking on a long distance journey and 1 in 4 British motorists overlook the need to replace worn tyres as well as the need to repair the chips in their windscreens. It is also imperative to the care of your windscreen in these cold and winter months that you remove the frost from your wind screen with the correct tools.
