The new Volkswagen E – Range

The new Volkswagen E – Range

Volkswagen have announced the release of both the VW e-Golf and the VW e-Up which are due to make their public debut at the latest Frankfurt Motor Show.

The Volkswagen e-Golf will be powered by an electric motor that will be powered by an electric motor capable of achieving 113bhp. VW insist that the car will have the ability of reaching 0-62 in a matter of 10.4 seconds. In terms of the lasting range for the VW model, a guideline range of 118 miles has been given to the model.

The Volkswagen e-UP on the other hand has already been released and will have a shorter range of 93 miles, but has a charge up time of 30 minutes for up to 80% of the battery. The VW e-Up is of course a considerable amount lighter than the Golf model as it comes in at a weight of 1185kg. This is also a fraction of the weight compared to that of the new main rival in the form of a Nissan Leaf.

In terms of the Volkswagen e-Up power, it will come from the 80bhp electrically powered motor that has the ability of producing 155lb ft of torque. Volkswagen also claim that the model has a top speed ability of 84mph and a 0-62 time of 12.4 seconds. The e-Up and the e-Golf will come with two different driving modes that enable more frugal motoring when needed.

The e-Up and the Volkswagen e-Golf will come with a combined charging system developed by Volkswagen that allows both the models to be charged by an AC and DC charging station.

The UK Government have planned to build the infrastructure of the electric car in the next number of months as they look to decrease the fuel emissions in the motoring industry. The Nissan Leaf currently stands in the way of the Volkswagen e Range and BMW and Audi also plan to join the party as they look to take the market away from the Nissan model.
