The F1 Review at Gap Insurance 123
We at Gap 123 have somewhat been away from the race track for a number of months following our last F1 related post. However, we have not missed 1 second of the race action and as the season approaches the half way mark and closes for a short Summer break, we at Gap 123 would like to pay close attention to the title ambitions that driver Lewis Hamilton may have.
It has been a long and hard season so far for all three British drivers Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button and Paul Di Resta as not one of them had achieved a race victory prior to this weekends race. However, a frustrated and somewhat emotional Lewis Hamilton turned his pole position into a race victory with a fantastic drive yesterday afternoon.
Hamilton made a somewhat controversial move at the end of last season by making the switch from McLaren to Mercedes. However, the move looks to have paid off as Mercedes currently occupy the second place position within the Constructors championship and insist that there is still a considerable amount of work to be done. McLaren on the other hand seem to have gone from bad to worse as the car looks to be struggling week in week out.
Jenson Button has been a consistently frustrated appearance this season as the car is simply not good enough to compete with the top of the grid. On the other hand, Jenson insists that progress has been made throughout the season and is hopeful of the McLaren coming back after the Summer break and offering something different in the way of performance and development. Jenson was another Brit who enjoyed the afternoon on the track yesterday as he battled with familiar faces such as Hamilton, Vettel, Kimi Raikkonen and Fernando Alonso.
The last race we at Gap Insurance 123 covered was the Spanish Grand Prix when the Ferrari of Fernando Alonso looked unstoppable as it cruised to victory at the Circuit de Catalunya, Barcelona.
The ever consistent Kimi Raikkonen finished in second place after fighting off Sebastian Vettel for numerous laps but on the other hand failing to contain the pace of Lewis Hamilton. As the middle of the season is here and the drivers take a short Summer break, the possibility of a McLaren reformation and Mercedes second half domination to the season is something that all F1 fans can get excited about.
