F1 at Gap 123 – Fernando Alonso Wins Spanish Grand Prix
We at Gap Insurance 123 are close followers of the Formula 1 sport and pay close attention to the on track developments that could one day find its way onto the roads of the UK. Fernando Alonso put in a fantastic performance which saw him win his first ever race at the Barcelona circuit.
The Ferrari of Fernando Alonso proved to be the best fitted model for the track on a day where the majority of teams looked to pay close attention to conserving tyres. Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg both started on the front row of the grid. However, the pair looked to struggle for race pace throughout, as the model looked to be in the completely wrong set up. Lewis Hamilton highlighted the cars struggles over the Radio as he addressed the team with a statement of “I couldn't possibly go any slower” and “I'm even being over taken by a Williams”.
Current World Champion Sebastian Vettel looked like a worthy winner for a while during the race as he immediately split the two Mercedes drivers off the line. The eventual winner however, had an even better start off the line as he passed both Kimi Raikkonen and Lewis Hamilton within the first few corners. Pole sitter Rosberg led the race for a while before being tracked down by Alonso and his Ferrari shortly after the first pit stop stage. The Mercedes driver then slipped further down the grid on the same lap as Vettel and Raikkonen eased past him.
Ferrari seemed to have the best pace on the track as both Alonso and team mate Felipe Massa set the fastest laps throughout the race. Alonso looked to pull away at the front of the grid whilst his team mate Massa hunted down drivers in front. Massa rounded off the day by luring Sebastian Vettel out of the final podium position to earn a place in the top three. The current world championship standing makes for an interesting read.

Kimi Raikkonen – Lotus – 85 points
