Volkswagen CrossBlue Coupe

The first teaser pictures of the new Volkswagen CrossBlue Coupe concept from the Shanghai Motor Show are featured on the internet. The car is set to make it's official debut this weekend at the Shanghai Motor Show. The CrossBlue Coupe follows the concept that was shown at the beginning of the year at the Detroit Motor Show.

The new CrossBlue model takes design themes that are already establishes by the seven seater CrossBlue, that step further, it offers an idea of what a fastback five seater version of the car would look like. The sleek design that can be seen on the pictures shows a rather subtle evolution of the styling of the CrossBlue, with wider and less tall headlights, a sloping low roofline and an angular rear diffuser. The Seven Seater Utilitatian crossover CrossBlue was designed with the United States in mind and also intends to capitalise on the fact that 29% of all United States cars that are sold are actually SUV's.

To confuse things even further, Volkswagen have shown a pair of SUV concepts, called the Cross Coupe. The first one was unleashed in 2011 at the Tokyo Motor show and got it's power from a plug in petrol-electric hybrid system that apparently managed 105 mpg and 62g in CO2 emissions.

The 2012 Geneva Motor Show featured a second Cross Coupe debut, this car featured a more frugal diesel-electric hybrid drivetrain which was said to return 157 mpg and 46g of CO2.

Both concepts were about the same size as a Volkswagen Tiguan and were built on the MQB platform. Though, the Coupe shares the United States market larger platform that is used on the CrossBlue and the United States spec Passat, this is bigger than the Volkswagen Touareg.
