The return of Top Gear!

Top Gear Returns!

On Sunday night, the hit BBC motoring show returned to our screens as presenters Richard Hammond, Jeremy Clarkson and James May all returned to the 80's. The main feature was whether or not current hatchback models are better than those seen in the eighties.

The trio all tested individual models with the Volkswagen Golf, Vauxhall Nova and Ford Fiesta all being tested. With the average cost of car being in the region of £700, you can imagine a lot of issues were found.

The trio of Eighties based models went up against a number of tasks with one of them being a hill climb time trial. The time trial target was set by the modern day Seat Leon Cupra model. The Volkswagen built model set a hugely impressive time which was unbeatable with the Vauxhall Nova coming not far behind the time.

The presenters also highlighted the likelihood of a Vauxhall Nova being rolled in the eighties through the form of demonstration. The Nova had a number of reliability issues after Richard Hammond went from 3rd to 1st during a drag race set up.

The trio also had to take part in a staged Police chase to see who could out run the Police for the longest. Amongst a period of moustache based jokes was a comical time set by the Nova of just 8 seconds.

The Volkswagen Golf and the Ford Fiesta ST2 managed to outrun the police for an impressive 14 hours plus each. A number of hilarious tactics had been used on the trio of models to try and stop them, with a tank being the first to succeed.

At the end of the show it was concluded that old fashioned and the first form of hatchback to enter the market still remain better than the modern day hatchback.
