The race on hydrogen fuelled vehicles

It is a news story which has been taking over the headlines in the car industry as of late and that is the addition of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. There are three manufacturers at this moment in time who have new fuel cell vehicles in the pipe line and they are Honda, Toyota and Hyundai. All of these companies are rushing to get their vehicles out and launched and hopefully revolutionise a sector of the car industry. These three firms are all set to be joined by another competitor though and it is the German giants BMW. Although the name remains unconfirmed, it is believed that the firm are working on a hydrogen vehicle of their own which may be badged as the third I model in the range after the i8 and i3 as it could be badged the i5. BMW are yet to reveal any more information on the vehicle but it is believed that the brand are hoping to have this vehicle launched before its competitors.

Competition from other manufacturers

The three brands listed above are not the only companies who will represent the future of hydrogen fuel cell models. Audi are also expected to reveal their brand new A7 concept vehicle from the Los Angeles motor show this week. With the competition to be so vast, will BMW be able to deliver with a new I model?. Without a doubt, the i8 and i3 have been big successes for the brand over the years and it has proven to be a popular choice amongst customers around the world. The only thing known about the new BMW model at this time is that it will share the same powertrain that Toyota are expected to use in their hydrogen vehicle from launch due to a joint partnership between the two auto-makers.

BMW to make history with their new hydrogen vehicle?

If BMW are indeed to launch this brand new hydrogen fuel vehicle and brand it as the i5 as expected, it will mean that the I range from the brand will offer three alternative fuel choices for customers. The i8 offers a hybrid driving experience whilst the i3 is ran on all electric. Therefore an i5 would be ran from hydrogen which is why it would make sense to name it the i5. There is no doubt that hybrid models have become very successful over the course of the past number of years and with technology constantly evolving, are hydrogen vehicles the future of the industry?.
