MINI and BMW location sharing technology

New compatability for apps will soon be available that allows MINI and BMW drivers to share their location on social networks and with contacts. Mini and BMW will soon be compatible with technology that allows you to share your location and will let drivers warn their friends and acquaintances if they happen to be running late.

This is all thanks to tie ups the company's have with the makers of the Glympse app for smartphones which quite simply offers people a way of letting others know where they are, where they are heading and what time they're expected to get somewhere. The app allows a driver to send their location and destination along with their estimated time of arrival to someone from your contact list on their phone, or be able to broadcast it over Twitter or Facebook without having to send a text message or make a phonecall. Also if you were running late for a meetin that was logged in the calendar of your phone, everybody on the attendee list could be sent a message which will alert them to what time you will be arriving.

This app will be integrated with models that are equipped with Mini connected drivers and BMW Apps later on this month, which means that when owners plug their phone into their car, all of the functions of the apps can be explored using the controls on the dashboard.

Phil Johnston, who is the project manager for the Group Apps Platform at BMW said that with the partnership, the firm are excited to be able to expand their roster of apps that are within the Group Application Program. Drivers will be able to share where they are safely, just with the simple touch of a button.
