Audi reveal the new R8 with specifications confirmed

Audi have revealed the brand new second generation version of their hugely successful R8. The vehicle was put under the bright lights of what has been a very exciting Geneva Motor Show this week. The new R8 has been one of the most anticipated reveals of the entire event and there has been much speculation surrounding the new model for many months now. Today however we have official confirmation of the brand new specifications that will be coming along with the car when it launches not just that though, as we have everything you need to know about the pricing of the vehicle for right here in the United Kingdom too. With sales of the first generation model beginning eight years ago, the R8 has proven to be the one to watch as far as sports cars are concerned. So what have the brand done this time around to make it much of the same and to grab just as much attention if not more?.

The new specs revealed for the R8

There are so many areas with the R8 that Audi specialise in which include comfort, technology and power. So getting us underway today will be a look at the power that the R8 gives out and what is sourcing it. The engine will consist of a V10 engine but two power outputs will be on offer for the brand new model which will begin with 533bhp or you can opt for 602 brake horse power. In order to increase the power that this car gives out, Audi have also used new materials in the bodywork of the vehicle consisting of lightweight material such as carbon fibre and aluminium with the vast amount of these materials now being used on the actual chassis of the car. Audi have brought in some good technology for the vehicle also with the addition of the expected laser light technology also coming into the mix. LED lighting is also offered at both ends. Among the new changes for the R8 we see that new components have been added around the bodywork which include new splitting air intakes, a redesigned back bumpers and a new front grille has also been thrown into the mix which is shared with the TT.

Audi will offer the new R8 in ten colours which includes the bright Orange that was shown in Geneva and a new camouflage Green style design will also enter the R8 line up. Remote controls will also be located on the steering wheel of the car and a brand new TFT screen measuring 12.3 inches in size can also be found inside the cabin.

How much will the new R8 cost?

Audi have confirmed that this brand new model will be available right here in the UK with a purchase price of £119,500 but you can upgrade to the R8 Plus model which sees more power delivered and added features for £137,500. Audi also confirmed that the car will go on sale and will be delivered towards the end of this year.

The likes of the M6 from BMW and the Porsche 911 have both proven to be the ideal candidates when it comes to challenging the R8 and we think that the second generation model is set to bring even more of a fight to these two popular sports cars.
