Audi beat BMW in luxury car market

Audi beat BMW in global sales battle

Audi, BMW and Mercedes have been in a battle between each other in a number of different car markets and competition is fiercer than ever. In just January and February alone, Audi has come out on top as the firm sell just 383 more models than BMW.

Audi announced record sales of 242,400 models for the first two months of the year and the figure is up by 9.3 per cent compared to the same period last year. Mercedes are currently at the back of the pack with just 229,630 models sold. In the previous 9 years BMW have dominated the German rivals in the luxury car market, however, it seems that the throne may now be under threat by the Audi brand.

The Volkswagen Group have announced plans to aggressively market the Audi models following the third place finish last time out in the worlds best selling manufacturer race. The Japanese manufacturer Toyota topped the table with Vauxhall owners General Motors finishing in second.

As well as heavily marketing the Audi brand, Audi themselves are set to release a number of new models such as the third generation TT. The third generation TT, the new Q7 and the new A4 will be the latest attempts by Audi to take the throne from BMW in the luxury car market.

Audi and BMW will also go up against each other in a new market this time round. The electric car market has been a market that manufacturers have been looking to enter in the last number of months as demand goes through the roof.

BMW have recently entered the market with a new i-range of models in the form of the i-3 and the i-8. On the other hand, Audi plan on releasing a new A3 e-tron as well as an electrically powered R8 super car model.
