Mazda 3 to be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show

The Mazda 3 is due to be unveiled at the Frankfurt motor show with a release date at the end of the year. 

The new Mazda 3 MPS is on the way and with it's return, the company will revive the hot hatchback by dropping the turbos. 

Turbocharges now dominate the hot hatchback class after the Honda Civic Type-R ceased production in 2010 and the Clio Renaultsport 200 disappeared at the start of the year. 

Both of the cars were killed by emissions regulations, which saddened fans of the high revving petrol engines, though Mazda has revived this high power naturally aspirated unit thanks to Skyactiv technology that  improves on consumption of furl by recuding the heat loss in a combustion cycle. 

A senior Mazda engineer said on the launch of the new 3, which is due in December of this year that the MPS is likely to return, though not as you would expect it, He went on to say that the Mazda 3's 163 brake horsepower 2.0 litre engine could be turned up to 200 brake horsepower. 

That should drop the 0-62 mile per hour figure from 8.2 seconds to below 7, though it is not as fast as the old 2.3 litre turbocharged MPS, it is enough to create a significant successor to the 198 brake horsepower Honda Civic Type-R. 

Mazda is also allegedly going to follow the footsteps of Volkswagen with the Golf GT range and create a hot diesel model. The 148 brake horsepower 2.2D will already be the fastest accelerating standard 3 with 62 miles per hour arriving in 8.1 seconds, though Jeff Guyin, the European boss hinted at the Mazda 3's reveal in June, comparing the acceleration of the diesel with the old MPS.
