Goodwood Festival of Speed 2013


The Goodwood Festival of Speed  2013 is taking place from the 12th to the 14th of July and will feature a fifty year celebration for the Porsche 911 along with seven F1 teams.The 20th anniversary of the fesitval this year is expected to be celebrated in style this year, with one of the biggest collections of cars both past and present set to make their way up the prestigious hillclimb over the Weekend. 

Porsche are celebrating 50 years of the 911 model with displays of some of the most famous versions of the model on the hillclimb, along with the rally course and also in the Cartier Style et Luxe Concours. The sculpture that will be featured outside of Goodwood house will also be 911 inspired this year. 

It is the 40th anniversary of the World Rally Championship also this year and so Goodwood are also having a specially extended rally course that features every one of every championship winning car from every year. 

There will be a lot of action on the hillclimb aswell, due to the celebration of 60 years of the World Championship for Sports cars and 90 years of Le Mans 24 hours. Those attending can expect to see such historics as the Jaguar D Type, the Porsche 962, the Mercedes 300SLR, all alongside more modern winners such as the Audi R18 prototypes. 

F1 fans definitely won't be dissapointed, with seven teams having already confirmed that they will be at the show, Red Bull, Mercedes, Ferrari, Caterham, Marussia, Lotus and McLaren. All of these will have their cars on display and will be driving up the hill. 

There will also be plenty of road car debuts, including the first look at the Lexus IS and Skoda Octavia vRS. The new P1 hypercar from Mclaren will also be at the festival, aswell as the Bloodhound SSC, the land speed record car which has plans to break through the 1000 miles per hour barrier. 

Since the introduction of the festival in 1993, where 25,000 people attended, it has grown immeasurably, with the number of visitors now being capped at around 150,000. As well as the festival, which is running from the 12th of July through to the 14th, there will be a moving motor show on the 11th, which offers visitors test drivers in a variety of vehicles.
