Some news today regarding the Vauxhall brand and their Luton factory, the Vivaro van which has been produced there since 2001 has officially ended their first generation production of the Vivaro van. The Vivaro is one of the companies best sellers when it comes down to vans and a total of 957,107 Vivaro vehicles have been produced there. The all new second generation of the vehicle will officially begin production at the plant later on into this month. Luton is now officially the sole van production factory in the UK as last year the American Ford brand closed down its Transit producing factory in Southampton. The first generation Vivaro will now officially be held in the Vauxhall heritage Centre in Luton.
Tim Tozer who is Vauxhalls chairman and managing director said “The current Vivaro has been a huge success and our workforce at Luton is very much looking forward to building the all new model”.
“The Vivaro van is of critical importance to Vauxhall and it's manufacturing facility in Luton. I'm very proud of the men and women who build this vehicle to world class levels of quality and productivity”.
With this milestone being achieved, it certainly opens up doors for more job vacancies within Vauxhall. With the production of the second generation Vivaro beginning later this month,a second shift has been announced to start from January of 2015 which will bring in around 250 more job vacancies.
With the second generation Vivaro being confirmed this also brings confirmation to many current staff at the plant by securing 1,200 current vacancies and a ten year contract which will bring in a £185 million investment to the Luton plant.
With details on the new Vivaro van being kept quiet for the time being, we cant help but wonder as to whether the new addition to the line up will prove to be just as successful for the brand as the first was. 52% percent of the production for the first generation model were for European buyers. So it just goes to show how popular the van is not just here on European markets but all round the world also.
