Toyota announce new performance brand

Toyota announce new performance brand

Toyota have announced that they will have their own performance brand within the next number of years. Mercedes currently have AMG and Nissan have the Nismo brand and Toyota are now building a performance arm.

There is a believed appetite for the Toyota brand to venture further into the performance car sector and design more sporty and powerful models. Toyota are also yet to announce a new Supra replacement and there has been a number of rumours over the possibility of a new convertible version of the GT86.

Toyota have also recently announced a new Aygo model along with the Peugeot and Citroen brand. The Toyota brand has faced a number of issues in the last number of years and the brand seems to be now back on track. The Japanese brand has been forced to issue a number of recalls which involved the steering and brakes.

Toyota are currently the worlds third largest manufacturer in terms of cars built and sold and the Japanese brand will look to be fighting its way back to the top of the worlds largest manufacturer rating. Toyota plan on introducing a new global architecture plan which will underpin the future of the cars line up. The new features are thought to be built in time for the next generation Prius model and is then thought to be planned to transfer onto the likes of the iQ and Avensis.

The Japanese brand will also look to invest further into the electric car market as the success of the Nissan Leaf has inspired other manufacturers such as BMW and Ford into the production of an electrically powered model. Toyota were one of the worlds first manufacturers to source the hybrid development with the Prius and have somewhat slipped behind in the race to develop the best fuel economy on the vehicle.
