The end is near for the Jaguar XK
The Jaguar XK model has been on sales in numerous countries across the world including the UK for eight years now and has sold an impressive 54,000 models. However, Jaguar themselves have announced that they will cease to produce the Coupe model and the convertible this Summer.
Jaguar insist that the change is due to a wider strategic vision for the brand which involves a number of new models. However, it has been no secret that sales within the luxury GT market have somewhat disappeared in recent years. In fact, the XK model will now account for just 4,000 sales a year.
The luxury sports car market is catered for as Jaguar have stated, the F-Type Roadster and Coupe models more than cater for the demand. The space now created in terms of production, will allow those at Jaguar Land Rover to allocate a higher number of models to one particular production plant.
The new aluminium platform at Jaguar will see the new XE model be the first model to be built at the Solihull plant. The new XE models at Jaguar are due to go on sale for the British brand in 2015.
In other Jaguar news, the firm have announced a lucrative deal to sign David Beckham as an official ambassador for the brand. The Jaguar brand have recently broken into the emerging market of China and with David Beckham on board, the Chinese market is expected to take a particular fancy in the brand.
The former England Captain will be featured within a number of TV commercials and print adverts exclusively in China. The football ace will be backing the F Type model as the brand hope to push sales even further. Jaguar have also recently announced a number of models at last weeks Geneva Motor Show in the form of the baby saloon.
The new baby Saloon model is set to go up against the likes of BMW and Mercedes when the model arrives for Jaguar next year.
