The 50th anniversary of the
Porsche 911 is definitely well underway in America as the new 911 GT3 468 brake horsepower model makes an apperance at the New York motor show. The brand new
Porsche 911 GT3 model has been co-developed by Porche's race and road engineers and includes such innovations as a new 4 wheel steering system that is electronically controlled and does without the manual gearbox for the very first time. The Porsche 911 GT3 can be easily distinguished from the standard 911 model by the aerodynamic body that includes a fixed carbonfibre wing, extra air intakes and a deeper front bumper.
Coming in at 1430 kg, it is heavier than it's 2nd Generation predecessor, which is put down to the 85mm extra length and 44mm extra width. Power for the model comes from a newly developed 468 brake horsepower version of the flat six engine that can also be found in the latest Porsche Carrera S.
As well as the new model being 39 brake horsepower more powerful than the previous
Porsche GT3, the rev limit is also up by 500 rpm, to 9000rpm. The rear wheels are sent power through the 7 speed dual clutch automatic gearbox, which has launch control integrated.
The model claims a time of 0-62 miles per hour in just 3.5 seconds and the top speed of the vehicle is 196 miles per hour. The 4 wheel steer system actually points the rear wheels of the car in an opposite direction to the front wheels at speeds up to 31 miles per hour, this is to achieve faster corner entry speeds. To improve stability, the rear wheels stay parallel to the front ones at speeds above 50 miles per hour.
