In some news today coming directly out of the motorbike world, and the German car and motorbike manufacturers BMW, we have learnt of the reports that have circulated online that, BMW are to recall 51,000 motorbikes that consumers currently own due to, a number of faulty fuel leaks on some of their machines. The majority of these two wheeled machines consist of the,2005 to 2011 R and K series models, which are available right now for purchase around the world and here in the UK but, the majority of these recalled machines are over in the States and could be set to, cause a stir amongst the motorbike universe.
In terms of the information that has been revealed regarding this recall on numerous BMW branded motorbikes, it has been stated that a, detailed analysis from the N.H.T.S.A company began to look into consumer complaints regarding fuel leakages from a number of certain models and, although a fuel leakage can be dangerous, the company posing the investigation have come out and stated that the particular problem reported on these machines, does not cause and raise for concern danger and risk wise. In regards to the problem itself, the situation reported is that, on numerous models from the well known German brand, cracks have began to form on the plastic flange that covers the fuel pump.It has been stated that this could cause, corrosive fluids to leak and could potentially cause some damage.
Although BMW are claiming that the recall is for nothing major, it has been reported from some current BMW motorbike owners of these versions in question, that the problem is not minor, and a lot of fuel has been reported to leak out of some of their bikes over the duration of ownership. We saw a similar sort of issue over a year ago now with some certain bike models from Suzuki, in which there were numerous faults reported on some of their GSXR models, which have since been recalled, and a solution resolved.
In terms of the reports on these faulted machines, it has been stated that first incident in regards to this matter was, apparently reported back in,2006, which begs the question as to why the company has not done anything to resolve this issue earlier. Near the beginning of 2010,the brand had taken a look at some of these models and concluded that the problem, was due to irregular servicing techniques. It has been stated that during mid way 2010 the company had, made relevant changes to these models in order to help resolve the issue, but many motorbike enthusiasts are still left wondering,as to why BMW, have only just put in a recall for these models ? .
