2015 Ford Expedition to get Ecoboost engine

Ford Motor Co have announced that the redesigned version of the 2015 Ford Expedition is to be offered with a 3.5 litre Ecoboost V6 engine.  Why the change of Ford engine?

The American automaker will be abandoning it's 310 brake horse power 5.4 litre V which is equipped to it's current Expedition model in an effort to boost fuel economy.  Fuel economy estimates for the 2015 model have yet to be revealed though the company claim it will “at least match and likely improve on today's numbers” before going on to say that, “It will have similar tuning to the V6 EcoBoost in the F-150.”

The Ford engine comparison

The 2014 F-150 is equipped with the 3.5 litre Ecoboost engine which delivers 365 brake horse power and 420lb/ft of torque. The pick-up truck returns 16mpg in city driving and 22mpg on the highway. The 2014 Expedition two-door model with the 5.4 litre V8 engine and six speed automatic gearbox returns 14mpg in the city and 20mpg on the highway while the four wheel drive version returns 13mpg in the city and 18mpg on the highway.

The 2015 Ford Expedition model details

At the moment there is no technical information released about the 2015 Expedition model, though the tow rating is likely to be the same as the outgoing truck, at 9,200lbs. Inside, power will be distributed through a six speed SelectShift automatic transmission that features a Manual mode with a shift-mounted rocker switch to select the desired gear.

Styling-wise, the SUV has a new front end with optional LED foglights and a redesigned rear hatch. It will also receive a new wheel lineup that includes factory-installed 22 inch models and chrome-tipped exhaust pipes.

The top of the line Premium trim level features Sync with MyFord Touch, push-button start and a Blind Spot Information System.

When the model makes it to showrooms, it will compete with the likes of Chevrolet with the  Suburban, Toyota Land Cruiser and  Vauxhall among others. Other potential rivals could also include the likes of Land Rover and Audi.

Alongside Ford's Platinum series and new King Ranch edition, the new 2015 Expedition model is set to arrive at dealerships later this year and when it does it will only be available with the Ecoboost engine. Pricing for the 2015 Ford Expedition has yet to be announced.
