It was over the course of the past week that the Honda brand left an impression on the Paris motor show by revealing some of their brand new vehicles all set to arrive on the road. Amongst the line up was the likes of the CR-V and the HR-V and of course the brand new Civic model. Today we are focusing our attention to perhaps the biggest and best vehicle that the company had on display at the event which came to us in the shape and form of the Civic Type R. The Type R has been made available on our roads since 1997 and has had three generations of the car go on sale over the years. This brand new addition to the Type R which is all set to arrive on the road from next year was officially displayed in the flesh for the first time ever and is looking more sporty and eye catching than ever before.
The vehicle was displayed in a metallic Blue paint scheme which also included red inserts and decals along the exterior of the vehicle. We think that the Blue paint is perhaps the finest look that the Type R has ever had especially when you take into consideration the red paint behind the Honda badge located in the middle of the front grille, around the wheels, across the bonnet and along the bottom run of the car. With a brand new sportier look and a new generation, you can also expect to find some new features come with the vehicle and that is exactly what the new Honda Civic Type R delivers on. During the vehicles reveal last week it was also confirmed that the car will receive an alternative driving model called the +R which will add more weight to the steering which will reduce the amount of Torque delivered and also make for a much more rapid response and smoother performance. The use of a brand new adaptive system also comes into play with the car controls both the front and back calipers and automatically adjusts the firmness of them to suit the surface of the conditions that you are driving on.
With the Type R being the more power orientated version of the Civic, you can also expect to see a change of engine in the car which is delivered on with the fitting of a 2.0 litre,i-VTEC engine which is also turbo charged. As all other Civic models in which have come before, expect to see the fitting of a standard six speed transmission too. There are many more powerful variants of car on the road today with some of the biggest contenders set for the new Civic Type R to be the likes of the Golf GTI and the Leon Cupra from Spanish brand Seat. Does the new Type R have what it takes to maintain a high level of success when it is launched?. Judging by what we know at this stage we think so yes.
A date is still awaiting confirmation from Honda but we do know that it will be available to purchase from Honda showrooms from early on into 2015. Prices for the car are also expected to come in at a cost of around the £30,000 area with this to be confirmed closer to the time.
