McLaren MSO 650S Coupe concept

McLaren's Special Operations division have recently previewed their new MSO 650S Coupe Concept. The new concept was designed to showcase the company's bespoke upgrades which are to be available to owners of the new 650S model. At present there are no plans for the MSO 650S Coupe Concept to be put into production but the company are monitoring potential interest from customers.

What exterior upgrades McLaren are showcasing?

These new upgrades are intended to offer and “optimised aerodynamic performance” and a “more dramatic appearance.” The new range of styling options include a newly designed carbon fibre rear diffuser and side blades. These MSO-branded door blades are more aggressive versions of those found on the 650S, featuring a satin finish to increase airflow along the bodywork edges. Satin has also been used to a similar effect on the engine covers and to finish all carbon fibre parts. At the rear, carbon fibre has been used heavily throughout the GT3-inspired bumper, helping reduce the weight of both the airbrake and unique MSO diffuser.

To help the new concept stand out, the company have finished it in an 'Agrigan Black' metallic black paint scheme. The in-house development incorporates a deep ruby red flake, which McLaren claims will change colour dramatically in direct sunlight and contrast with the satin finished carbon fibre.

Completing the exterior, the vehicle has been equipped with lightweight '650S' alloys, which are also finished in satin and wearing Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres.

Inside, the MSO have added fixed black carbon fibre racing seats based on those found in the McLaren P1. These are finished in carbon black leather and offer a lower and more supportive seating position. Satin has been used once again to finish the carbon fibre throughout the cabin, contrasted by the use of gloss black details.

When will the new McLaren upgrades be available and for what cars?

Although the upgrades have been developed with the 650S Coupe and Spider in mind, the company have confirmed that many of the improvements can be fitted to the 12C. This is in keeping with the manufacturers recent emphasis on not limiting vehicle developments to new customers.

Unlike McLaren's recent free Technology Upgrade offer, the new MSO-engineered packages will come at a price. The packages are available to order now from McLaren dealers, with the side blades priced at £5,114 for the 650S and the rear diffuser available for £7,245.
