Volvo V60 Plug in Hybrid R-Design launched

Volvo have expanded their V60 range by offering their V60 Plug in Hybrid in R-Design trim for the first time. The new Volvo V60 Plug in Hybrid is on sale now, with deliveries scheduled to begin in August.

What powers the new Volvo V60 Plug in Hybrid R-Design?

Power for the vehicle comes from a 212 brake horse power 2.4 litre five cylinder turbodiesel with 440Nm of torque. This power is transferred to the front wheels by a six speed automatic gearbox, whilst an electric motor generating 69 brake horse power and 200Nm drives the rear axles.

There are three driving modes offered which are Hybrid, Power and Pure. In default Hybrid mode, the vehicle alternates between the diesel engine and motor. It officially manages 155.2mpg whilst emitting only 48g/km of CO2. In Power mode, the two units work in tandem, giving the model all wheel drive and a combined 281mph and 620Nm. In Pure, the model manages up to 31 miles of electric only drive, with the diesel unit engaging only if 78mph is exceeded or during heavy acceleration.

The Volvo V60 Plug in Hybrid R-Design

For their new model, the company have fitted the V60 D6 AWD Lux Nav with the R-Design front bumper and grille. This gives the car a lower sportier appearance when equipped with the repositioned daytime running lights and angular air intakes. Additional exterior changes include 18 inch Ixion alloys and a new rear diffuser. The latest V60 model gains a full R-Design interior too, featuring sports seats trimmed in a combination of textile and perforated black nubuck leather. The vehicle also gains fitted sports pedals and floor mats, as well as charcoal headlining and traditional R-Design upgrades.

As with all Volvo's other PHEVs (Plug in Hybrid Electric Vehicles), there's an On Call telematic system allowing for constant contact between driver and vehicle thanks to a free mobile app. Special plug in hybrid instruments and read outs have also been carried over from the regular V60 Plug in Hybrid.

Prices are set to start at £51,675 for the new Volvo model. This is a £1,700 premium on the standard model, although Volvo V60 Plug in Hybrid R-Design customers will still benefit from the government grant of £5,000 for low emission vehicles.
