New BMW X1

BMW X1 Efficiency

Fuel efficiency has become one of the biggest factors in choosing a vehicle over the last few years and the larger vehicles such as the X1 at BMW may have suffered in terms of criticism. BMW have therefore promised that the new X1 which is due in 2015, will be one of the most fuel efficient crossover models on the market.

The new X1 model at BMW will be set to use the same front wheel drive architecture as used in the 2 Series active tourer. The new model will have the very recognisable BMW 3 Series front end on the model.

The current X1 model has been based on the previous 3 Series Touring model, however, the new X1 model is set to be the platform for the next generation 1 Series model. The platform has already been used by the current three door Mini this year.

The crossover market has seen some interesting developments over the past 24 months as the likes of Vauxhall, Ford and Kia have all joined the market. The larger crossover models such as the BMW X1 will be looking to reclaim the market that has been dominated by the Qashqai model.

A number of new models released by BMW will commence a new rival between the German mass market manufacturer and Nissan. Nissan currently dominate the electric car market with the Leaf model as well having a strong hold on the crossover market.

The new i-Range of models at BMW are set to go up against the very successful Nissan Leaf model. The developments of BMW within the electric car market will allow them to take greater care and carry knowledge onto models such as the new X1. In the electric car market, efficiency and emissions are the key selling points.

The new X1 model will aim to be lighter and may well be using the same power train options as the 2 Series Active Tourer which will ensure that the model will be using the 2.0 litre four cylinder petrol and diesel options.
