BMW 3 Series Hybrid
The German manufacturer, BMW, are rumoured to be developing a new hybrid version of the firms best selling 3 Series model. The 3 Series model has been spied during winter testing and with a new model not expected, it is rumoured to have been a different form of power in the hybrid.
In terms of the visual changes on the 3 Series model, a plug in charge socket is said to be situated along the side of the model. The model is expected to be powered in the same way as the X5 hybrid model at BMW. The 3 Series model will maintain a certain level of power with the new 4.0 litre engine along with the electric motors.
The BMW brand released the i-3 late last year which is expected to achieve the highest number of sales and biggest increase in market share. The new model will have a 0-62mph time of approximately 7 seconds. In terms of the capability of the electric motors alone, the model will have the ability to achieve a range of 20 miles on the electric motors alone.
The new Hybrid offering of the 3 Series model is expected to be priced somewhere in the region of £40,680. However, the model is not due to arrive in showrooms until early 2015. By then the BMW manufacturer should have a strong hold on the market with the i-3.
Currently, the Nissan Leaf accounts for over 50% of the worlds electric market which is quite staggering, however, with a large number of other manufacturers such as Mercedes, Audi and BMW joining the market, sales are bound to struggle.
The Japanese brand Nissan are already planning to release the update Leaf model in conjunction with the majority of rivals entering the market. The 3 Series hybrid will go against rivals Mercedes as the pair of German brands look to go head to head once again.
