Drivers warned to be extra careful this winter
As the news carries almost daily reports on the poor weather expected, drivers are being warned to pay extra attention and take extra care when travelling on the roads this winter. The winter this year is being reported to last up to six months, and carry us right the way through until May of next year. The cold weather and sub zero temperatures are not a pleasant time to be a driver of any vehicle, whether it be a car, motorbike or other form of transport. The winter season more often than not is a big cause of incident's in vehicles and other forms of accidents that are not vehicle related throughout the year.
Previous statistics of the winter weather
Over a number of recent years, a lot of incident's have occurred due to heavy snow, floods and other related conditions all of which provide hazardous driving conditions nearly all winter long. This year with the season reported to be going on for a total of six months here in the United Kingdom and across various parts of Europe, drivers and motorbike riders are certainly be told to be extra careful when travelling on our roads. One of the main reasons for the incident's are the slippery/icy roads. With a survey done by popular car manufacturer Kia, it shows that at least 48 percent of winter accidents are due to cars and other vehicles skidding on the roads, during the cold weather. Although new safety features over recent time have been introduced including the introduction of winter tyres on select Kia models and the same from other car manufacturers sometimes, the conditions are just that bad incidents do still occur.
Insurance provider's to be busy this Winter?
With the amount of incident's that occur over the winter time each year, insurer's usually spend a lot of time paying out for write off vehicles and damages and minor damage to motorbikes and cars. With this winter expected to go on for a total of six months the payout for insurers could hit record figures around the UK. Drivers are indeed being urged to keep safe when traveling this winter season in order to avoid incidents and occurrences for the safety of their vehicles and that of themselves.
Of course at GapInsurance123 we would recommend common sense and vigilant when driving in poor conditions. We hope all our policyholders remain safe this winter.
