The
Vauxhall Adam is to be fitted with a brand new efficient 1.0 litre three cylinder turbo engine, it was announced recently and the model will be unveiled next month at the Frankfurt Motor Show. This engine is the first of the new small gasoline engine (SGE) range for Vauxhall and produces 113 brake horsepower and 166 newton metres of torque.
Using an all new lightweight aluminium cylinder block and direct injection, the new engine will produce under 100g CO2 emissions. Fuel efficiency has also been improved by 20% in comparison to the Vauxhall Astra, which is similarly powered with a 1.6 litre naturally aspirated engine. A brand new six speed gearbox is also to be fitted, it weighs around 30% less than the one before at only 37kg.
Chief Engineer at Vauxhall's Small Gasonline Engines Dr. Matthias said that in developing the small engine
, Vauxhall have not only tried to minimise CO2 emissions and fuel consumption but also wanted to demonstrate that three cylinders offers just as much refinement as four or even more.
This new three cylinder 1.0 litre turbo engine is one of the first engines out of 13 that
Vauxhall are intending to bring to the market by 2016, along with a variety of new transmissions.
