First Pictures of the new Mercedes C190 unveiled

The first pictures of the new Mercedes C190, set to rival the 911 from Porsche, have been unveiled across the internet, ahead of the cars official debut in 2015.

The car is set to use a chopped down version of the SLS AMG's spaceframe, which is made from aluminium. The model will have similar proportions, with a stubby rear, long bonnet and cabin back profile, though it will set in between the SL and SLK in terms of size. As is obvious from the pictures, the gullwing doors of the SLS model have been dropped. This will cut some weight from the 1,695 kg SLS, which will take the weight much nearer to the 1,395 kg of the Carrera S from Porsche.

The engine line up for the model is expected to be based around the 4.0 litre twin turbocharged V8 engine that is being developed for ue in future AMG models. We can expect to see it used in the next generation C63 AMG, along with the C190, where it will be offered with a different range of power outputs. Entry level models will get around 480 brake horsepower, whilst an optional AMG performance package will take the power to over 500 brake horsepower. As Mercedes did with the SLS model, it is expected to see a track focused Black Series version of the C190 model aswell.

The C190 will be rear wheel drive and front engines, just like the V8 Vantage and F-Type V8 S from Aston Martin. Though Sources have indicated that unlike those two rival models, the C190 will be offered as a coupe only. It is likely to have a price that matches those model aswell, starting at around £80,000. The top specification Black Series model could come in at as much as £120,000, which would put it on par with the 911 Turbo from Porsche. It is still rather a lot lower than the SLS's starting price though, which is £165,030. The standard C190 model, which could be badged SLC, will be one of 13 Mercedes models that have never before been seen and is due by 2020. These include the GLA SUV and C Class Cabriolet and is expected to be unveiled during the middle of 2015. The SLS is likely to be sold alongside it on a temporary basis and Mercedes is currently evaluating a successor for the Flagship supercar.
