The new Kia Carens spec and prices

Kia have revealed the United Kingdom Specifications and Prices for the new seven seat Carens MPV vehicle, with the range starting at £17,895. The new model will be available from this price when it goes on sale on the 1st of May this year. This means that although there is a rise in the price over the outgoing model, the new carens will still undercut rivals such as the Ford Grand C-Max and the Renault Grand Scenic.

The Carens is smaller than the model it is replacing, both in width and height, but the longer wheelbase and lower seats mean there is more space on the interior of the vehicle. Peter Schreyer, who is the President and design boss of the company, has actually given the styling of the vehicle a complete Revamp.

Buyers of the Carens will be able to pick from three direct injection engines, two diesel and one petrol. There are also three seperate trim levels to choose from and all versions of the model get air conditioning, bluetooth, LED running lights, a cooled glovebox, audio controls that are mounted on the steering wheel and cruise control.

Opting for the mid specification 2 model adds privacy glass, automatic lights and wiper, 16 inch alloy wheels and dual zone climate control. The top specification 3 version of the model gets more luxury kit such as, heated and electrically adjustable seats, a colour reversing camera and bigger wheels.

The entry level petrol model uses a 1.6 litre engine that produces 133 brake horsepower and 165 newton metres of torque and comes with a manual six speed gearbox. It uses stop start technology to keep CO2 emissions at 149 grams and economy at 44.1 miles per gallon.

Both diesel models use a 1.7 litre block and have a starting price of £19,295 for the lower powered model that produces 114 brake horsepower and 260 newton metres of torque. It is also the most efficient engine from the range with CO2 emissions of 124 grams and an economy which is claimed to be well over 50 miles per gallon. The higher power model produces 134 brake horsepower and 330 newton metres of torque. It is also available with an automatic six speed gearbox.

As well as the leading seven year Warranty from Kia, the Carens model is also available with a Care 3 servicing pack for £329, which covers the first three years.
