The New Vauxhall Ampera Hybrid
The Vauxhall Ampera Hybrid is not new, but it may be new to you. Sales of the new Vauxhall Ampera have been that bad that the Vauxhall brand have decided to cut the price by over £3,500.
The fact that Vauxhall are cutting the price by such an amount suggests just what state the model is in, in terms of sales that is. However, the price cut will now put the model up against standard powered vehicles, which give the model the advantage it needs to boost sales.
Both the Positiv and Electron versions of the Ampera will start from £28,750 and £30,495, once the government grant of £5,000 has been factored in. The UK Government has looked to reinforce the issue of reducing fuel emissions by offering motorists who purchase an electrically powered vehicle or hybrid model an extra £5,000 towards the invoice price of the model.
The success of models such as the Nissan Leaf within the UK has led to manufacturers such as Vauxhall and BMW to design models to rival the model. The electric car market within the UK has more than doubled in terms of sales figures within the last 12 months.
The Nissan Leaf has dominated the market within the UK and manufacturers such as Vauxhall would like a taste of the success. The Vauxhall Ampera model is of a different standard to that of the Leaf model as the two models are completely different. The Nissan Leaf is a small city car and the Ampera is a large saloon model and the different price may illustrate that.
However, with the recent change in price the General Motors owned Vauxhall brand hope for better things for the Ampera model within the UK. In terms of competition the new BMW i3 model will be looking to keep the sales of the Vauxhall Ampera down and is in a similar price range and size.
